My name is Silvia Otero and ever since I was a child I have been passionate about fashion and all it entails: expression, creativity, personality… I used to devour my mother’s fashion magazines, I loved dressing my dolls with remnants and customizing old clothes… that inclination towards aesthetics and fashion was what made me study History of Art and Fashion Design afterwards.
My sources are quite varied, but there’s a special connection with three locations in Spain: Asturias, because of its elegance and sobriety; Madrid, because of its spontaneity and eclecticism; and Andalusia, because of its happiness and light. Other sources are my travels, my favourite books and films, the artistic avant-gardes, certain historical periods… inspiration may come from anywhere!
When I’m designing I always picture that garment as part of a thousand stories and at significant times of the person who wears it, that’s why I make versatile and timeless clothes.
About the Ópalo brand
Ópalo arose from the need for differentiation and genuineness. In a world that’s becoming more industrialized, there is a return to the craftsmanship and that’s why we want to acquire garments with and added value. All our garments are limited edition, so only a few are made.
In Ópalo we give greater importance to high quality cloths, minimalist silhouettes with sophisticated details and personal service. The whole process takes place in Spain: design, pattern making and dressmaking. We also accept orders for tailor-made garments.
